Overview
What we do for exposed aggregate
Exposed aggregate is a finish, not a different concrete — we pour standard concrete with decorative aggregate (pebbles, river rock, glass) seeded into the top, then wash away the surface paste so the stones show. The result: a textured, slip-resistant surface that looks like a hand-laid pebble walk and lasts as long as the slab itself.
It's the right call for sloped driveways (where smooth concrete becomes a slide in the rain), for pool decks (where bare feet need grip), and for any walkway that gets wet often.

Our process
From first call to final walk-through
- 1
Pick your aggregate
Choose stone size and color from sample boards. Ronnie quotes a fixed price including the aggregate.
- 2
Prep and pour
Standard base prep, forms, and pour — same quality as any other slab.
- 3
Seed and finish
Aggregate is broadcast onto the surface and pressed into the wet concrete with a roller.
- 4
Wash
Time it right — wash off the surface paste at the right moment to expose the stones cleanly.
Why Rose Concrete
Why hire us
The wash window for exposed aggregate is short — too early and the stones come loose, too late and you can't get the cement off. We've poured enough of these to know the timing for San Diego's weather, so the finish comes out tight and even.

“Stamped patio in our backyard. Picked the slate pattern from his sample boards. The finish is clean, no fading lines, and it looks like a $40,000 patio at half the price.”

“Ronnie poured our 600-square-foot driveway in two days and didn't leave a speck of mud on the grass. Quoted exactly what he charged. Crew that showed up was the same crew Ronnie said would show up.”
Sarah M. · Clairemont · Mar 2026

“We hired three contractors before Rose. Only one who actually walked the yard, talked through drainage, and showed up the day he said he would. Patio looks like the listing photos.”

FAQ
Exposed Aggregate questions, answered
Is exposed aggregate harder to keep clean?
A bit — debris and dirt can sit between the stones. Pressure-washing once a year handles it. The trade-off is well worth it for the grip and the look.
How slip-resistant is it?
Significantly more than smooth or even broomed concrete. The texture comes from real stones, so even with a layer of water on top, your feet have something to grip.
Can I match an existing exposed-aggregate driveway?
Aggregate type and color — yes, if we can identify the original stones. Sun-aging will leave a visible seam between old and new for a year or two until the new section weathers in.
Is it more expensive than broomed concrete?
A bit — the aggregate adds material cost and the wash step adds labor. Worth it on slopes and around pools where slip resistance matters.
